CFM International (CFM) was formed as 50/50 joint company between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric Company in 1974.  In 2008, the two companies  extended the partnership through the year 2040.

The agreement that established CFM calls for the two parent companies to share everything equally, from design and development to production and support. 
 
The CFM56 product line includes six engine models spanning the thrust range from 18,500 to 34,000 pounds (82 to 151 kN) thrust.  These engines power a total of 30 commercial and military aircraft applications. 

Today, CFM is the world's leading supplier of commercial transport jet engines with firm orders more than 25,000 engines.  The nearly 20,000 CFM56 engines in service with 500 operators and the fleet has accumulated more than 450 million flight hours powering more than 7,800 aircraft worldwide as the most reliable engines in the air.
